Four Seasons Resort Hualalai

Situated on the secluded Kona-Kohala coast on the Big Island, Four Seasons Hualalai was designed to fit seamlessly into its stunning natural setting. From the moment you arrive, you are transported into Hawaiian heaven complete with white sand beaches and clear blue ocean views contrasted against the island’s iconic black volcanic rock.

Built into its natural surroundings, the resort combines history, culture, and laid-back luxury with its traditional Polynesian architecture and maximization of indoor-outdoor living. The lush, tropical, and meticulously kept landscape weaves throughout the property, with oversized palms, yellow hibiscus flowers, birds of paradise and musk ferns everywhere you look.

The resort is divided into seven neighborhoods, with eight unique pools, including the adults-only Palm Grove Pool, the family-friendly Sea Shell Pool and the 1.8 million gallon King’s Pond, featuring more than 3,000 tropical fish which you can feed and swim with.

The Four Seasons Hualalai features 252 bungalow rooms, suites, and villas, each with its own lanai or balcony with ocean views. The decor is understated Hawaiian luxury, with tropical prints in neutral tones,  textured grass wall treatments and Hawaiian artwork. We stayed in a Prime Ocean View room, overlooking King’s Pond from the second level of a two-story bungalow structure. I loved the location and view, complete with a furnished balcony to enjoy morning coffees and evening sunsets.

There are plenty of dining options to choose from, including the casual open-air Beach Tree, the beachfront Ulu Ocean Grill with an adjacent sushi lounge, and the Hualalai Grille, a steakhouse overlooking the golf course. There’s also the very quaint and local-feel of the Hualalai Trading Company, which looks like a traditional plantation trading post, which serves locally roasted coffee, smoothies, pastries, as well quick bites and snacks. This was our go-to most mornings for casual coffee and a breakfast burrito after a workout in the gym.

Speaking of the gym, the spa and fitness facilities are remarkable, with a 28,000 square foot spa featuring indoor and outdoor treatment areas, alongside a gym with state-of-the-art equipment and daily group classes. For tennis and golf lovers, the hotel offers 8 tennis courts and an oceanfront championship 18-hole golf course.

The service at Four Seasons Hualalai is worth noting, with a staff willing to go above and beyond your every request with a huge smile on their face. Whether it was the quick service at the loungers on the beach, a foot massage at the pool, or friendly morning faces at the Trading Post, everyone there was so full of life and extremely friendly. If you’re looking for a relaxing tropical getaway with your loved one or family, this property would be the perfect option.
